- I am best described as a reader. Reading, of course, is a very general term and I mean it in exactly that sense. "“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.” “The question is ,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”" I used to believe the world could be read, if not always understood or made sense of. While not so sure now, I still feel reading is distinct from understanding: anything and everything, when written down, becomes artifice and that is the intuitive principle on which my reading operates. To read, therefore, is to interpret not understand.
